Take the first two nights to relax, see the sights and shop after the flight. The River Run Retreat Health Village is a new construction full-service Ayurvedic Retreat Center located in the town of Aluva, about one hour outside of Kochi.  It has eight traditional therapy rooms in which your panchakarma therapies will take place.  Along with your hosts, there is a resident ayurvedic Doctor available 24/7.  The grounds, full of medicinal trees and herbs overlook the gorgeous Periyar River which nourishes the lush, tropical landscape.

Arrive at the River Run Retreat on the 3rd day and settle in. You'll meet the retreat center staff, get accoustomed to the grounds and have your consultation with the Ayurvedic Doctor.  There will light yoga classes.  Meals will be served in the private, on-site cafe.  Your hosts will be available throughout the day to speak with you about the panchakarma process. Therapies will begin on the 18th.  You will have plenty of time during the day to rest, rejuvinate and participate in yoga, talks, ayurvedic cooking classes and more.

Wake up to the sound of morning mantras being chanted at the temple accross the river and the calls of tropical birds and monkeys. All of the rooms have private bathrooms with hot water, showers and air conditioning.  The riverside rooms have balconies overlooking the river for those guests that choose it.  Filtered water is provided to guests daily. Wi-fi is available on site as well.  All rooms are clean, comfortable and cozy.  The retreat center staff is available to help with all of your lodging requests.

The Kundalini Yoga aspect of your healing retreat is a daily practice helping you transform your current life's patterns into those that are in harmony with your essence.  Each day there will be mulitple opportunities to develop yourself yogically both in group classes and in private sessions.  This process in combination with the panchakarma process will help you realize the deeper levels of healing available to you and provide the framework to maintian your well-being after returning home.

During your time at the Retreat Center you will have the opportunity to engage in group Ayurvedic Cooking classes, experience traditional Kerala Dance and music as well take part in the Chottanikara Festival - a colorful and elaborate tradition honoring the Goddess.  The visit to the festival takes place in the evening of the most auspicious night under the "Makam" star where elephants are dressed in full regailia and the celebration is at its peak.

Houseboating In Alleppey

The morning of the 24th you will depart from the River Run Retreat and travel to Alleppey to board one of Kerala's famous houseboats.  The perfect segue from your panchakarma and yoga experience, the houseboat cruise slowly meanders down the backwaters of the jungles. Enjoy an incredible day and sunset on the water with freshly served meals.  At night the houseboat becomes the most unique hotel you have experienced with a full vista of the open starry sky while silently gliding along the water.  Enjoy a relaxing breakfast in the morning and disembark from the houseboat to either travel home or journey to Delhi.

Optional One Week Extension to Delhi, Taj Mahal and Jaipur

February 26 - March 1st 

Delhi

Begin your morning with breakfast at the five star hotel then continue onward to a morning tour of Old Delhi. Your first stop is Mahatma Gandhi Memorial at Raj Ghat; the Ashoka Pillar & the famous Chandani Chowk bazaars, once the shopping arcade of Mughal royalty. Take a Rickshaw ride through the narrow and colorful lanes of old market. Finally visit marble domes and slender minarets of the Jama Masjid. Your sightseeing tour of New Delhi this afternoon includes a drive along Rajpath to photograph the Parliament House, President's Palace and India Gate, a memorial to India's soldiers. Continue to Humayun's tomb, forerunner to Taj Mahal. Your final stop is at the Qutab Minar and ruins of Hindu temples destroyed during the Qutabshahi period.

Agra & Taj Mahal

After a train trip from Delhi, visit the Agra Fort, built by three of the greatest Mughal emperors. Continue the Taj Mahal, an enduring monument to love, with a continually fulfilling beauty. View Taj by day and sunset.  The next morning arise early to witness the Taj at sunrise (optional) and have breakfast at the hotel. Travel overland to Fatehpur Sikri, once an imperial capital frozen in time, constructed by Akbar the Great around 1570. After the tour continues to Bharatpur where you will have the option of visiting the Bharatpur Keoladeo bird sanctuary.  Board express train to Jaipur for the final leg of the journey.

Jaipur

Jaipur, the "pink city," owes its name, foundations and careful planning, to the great warrior, astronomer, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II.  Visit the ancient capital of Amber. Ascend to the Palace Fortress on the back of a gaily-caparisoned elephant and tour the intricate chambers and hallways of the palace. Enroute to Amber, stop to photograph a major Rajput landmark, the Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds).  In the afternoon, tour the City Palace built in a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. Continue on to the Jantar Mantar, a stone observatory, and the largest of Jai Singh's five remarkable observatories.
